Hi Peter
I have been looking for a good solution, too. One thought is to mount the plotter fixed over the companionway. I think a Zeus2 7 inch screen could go there without trouble. Then, if 7 inch is not large enough, you could mount a rammount from tallonsystems (http://www.tallonsystems.com) on either side just at the end of the sprayhood, inside the sprayhood. You could mount an iPad or Android Pad flexible, there, right in front of where you steer. You would have to use some wireless streaming thing, though. Novico has the GoFree 1 for that. That solution would also work with the plotter mounted below deck, and the iPad or Android device does weight some less than the plotter, I suppose. That solution would also work with a pc below deck, and you would be able to control the plotter or the pc remotely.
Will be sailing with an 10 inch Android device only this year, mounted in the middle on top of the companionway, looking if that works fine. Then probably implement a mix of what I have written before, because I would like a semi-fixed place for sailing actively, and the would love to have the device nearer to me when going one way at night or through the swedish archipelagos.
more thought? Any solutions? I know – by the way – some 32 owners have their plotter on top of the companionwayhatch. There it can be close – when you close the hatch, or out of the way, when you open it.
Cheers and enjoy the lovely weekend weather!
